Common Signs of a Failing DeWalt Battery
Reduced Runtime
One of the most common indicators of battery wear is a noticeable reduction in runtime.
If a battery that previously powered your tool for extended periods is now running flat after only a short amount of use, the cells may be losing their ability to hold a full charge.
Battery Overheating
It's normal for batteries to become warm during charging or use. However, excessive heat may indicate an underlying issue.
Look out for batteries that:
- Become unusually hot while charging
- Overheat during normal operation
- Remain hot long after use has ended
Visible Damage
Before using any battery, carry out a quick visual inspection.
Check for:
- Cracks in the battery housing
- Swelling or bulging
- Corrosion around the terminals
- Signs of leaking
If any physical damage is present, stop using the battery immediately and replace it.
Inconsistent Tool Performance
A healthy battery should provide consistent power throughout use.
You may notice:
- Tools cutting out unexpectedly
- Reduced power under load
- Slower operating speeds
- Inconsistent performance across multiple tools
If these problems occur with more than one tool, the battery may be the cause.
